Heat Pump Rebate
Halifax EMC offers its members a rebate for the installation of an energy-efficient heat pump:
- As a replacement for a non-repairable heat pump
- As a changeout from a gas/oil unit or an electric furnace
- In a new construction/manufactured home
Requirements
The following requirements must be met to receive a heat pump rebate:
- The unit must have a SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating of 15 or greater
- Documentation of model number, serial number, SEER rating, and HSPF (heating season performance factor) must be provided
Rebates
Rebates are tiered at the following levels:
- $150 for a 15 SEER air source unit
- $250 for a 16 SEER (or higher) air source unit
- $400 for a geothermal (water source) heat pump
A rebate of up to a maximum of $500 will be given to a member who replaces or changes out an old heating system for an energy-efficient heat pump in his/her residence or business.
Programmable Thermostat
- An additional $50 for the installation of a programmable thermostat with the installation of a new energy-efficient heat pump that meets the above requirements

Please attach a copy of the Certificate of Product Ratings to the rebate form. You may get a copy of this certificate from your heat pump dealer.
How to Apply for the Rebate
To apply for a rebate on an electric water heater or heat pump:
- Purchase an electric water heater or heat pump from any commercial dealer
- Have the unit installed
