2023 Annual Report – President’s Message

As we reflect on the past year, it’s evident that amidst the familiar rhythms of Halifax EMC’s mission and purpose, 2023 marked a year of significant change for our cooperative. It was a year where we embraced transformation, navigating through shifts both within our leadership and the broader landscape shaped by opportunities and challenges within our industry.

One of the most notable changes was the appointment of a new CEO, ushering in fresh perspectives and insights that will undoubtedly guide us into an exciting future. Additionally, 2023 marked the milestone of hosting our first in-person annual meeting since the onset of the pandemic, symbolizing resilience and adaptability in the face of adversity.

Looking ahead, we remain steadfast in our commitment to innovation and enhancement of member experience. In line with this commitment, we are thrilled to announce the introduction of Checkout PayGo, offering members a convenient new method to pay their electric bill. PayGo is a user-friendly, real-time cash payment service that extends Halifax EMC’s ability to accept cash payments at retail locations more convenient to the member than the Halifax EMC office closest to them. There are over 50,000 retailers participating in the network including Dollar General, CVS, Walgreens, Speedway, 7-Eleven and Family Dollar. This initiative not only reflects our responsiveness to evolving consumer preferences but also underscores our dedication to providing seamless and accessible services meeting our members where they are.

Furthermore, we are investing in new technologies and software to deliver a better member experience as they interact with their cooperative while also improving our ability to provide a resilient electric grid. These upgrades signify our ongoing efforts to leverage today’s technology for the betterment of our cooperative and the satisfaction of our members.
