Director Beverly H. Walker, representing District 8 At-Large, retired from the Halifax EMC Board of Directors on March 31, 2022.

Walker was appointed to the board in 2001 to fill the uncompleted term of Helen Fleming. In her 21 years of tenure, she served as assistant secretary-treasurer, vice president, and president. Notably, she was the first woman to hold the board
president position.

During her time on the board, Walker was instrumental in the start of the Operation RoundUp program in 2008 at the cooperative and she served as an ex-officio member of the Halifax Helps Board of Directors.

Following extensive training, Walker was fully certified as a Credentialed Cooperative Director as well as awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Board Leadership by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

Walker also served as the Chairman of the Statewide Directors’ Conference, as a member of the Rural Electric Action Pac Conference, and as a member of the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives Training, Education, and Advisory Committee.

Her leadership and vision has been greatly appreciated and will be missed.
